Taiping Part II

I was back in town the last weekend to visit mommy. Since I was back there, just wanted to show you around this small little town called "Taiping" which means peace, where I grew up in.

Taiping Wan Tan Noodle is always unique for me and no where else tasted the same. This shop is just next to the KFC in town. Only RM2.40 / plate.
I am surprise that during a recent 8TV review on budget holiday, they did not feature Bismillah as one of the must-go place for roti canai breakfast. Above is a glass of Teh tarik with fresh cow milk. It's creamy.
What is so special about Bismillah's roti canai is it's "kari serbuk". Ask for that if you were ever there.

Weather in Taiping has been very warm the last trip I went back. This is the place to go. It's right below of Larut Matang building or opposite Chinese Methodist Church. This is the place I normally hang out after a hot day marching under the sun during St. John weekly meeting on a Saturday.
They called the place "Shuiet San" in mandarin which means Snow Mountain. There is no snow mountain ice kacang on this picture simply because we didn't order them. What we have here is Lin Chi Kang with blended ice on the right, white sugar in the middle, and a normal ice kacang with ice cream. Here you can get a fruit juice for only RM1.20.
One of Taiping's signature Fried Kuey Teow is the one fried with fish ball and char siew.
Fried oyster or o-chien is quite popular in this hawker building too.

Jalan Panggong Wayang. The hill at the back is Maxwell Hill. A bit hazy though.
One of the place where you can get good bargain is the Bazaar.
Countless sweat and tears I have poured out for the sports called swimming. The place where I grew up as a kid. But I am glad I went through it.
Evening sky in Taiping.
The Taiping Prison was built in 1879. 129 years ago.
Clock Tower. Still "ringing".
One of the streets of Taiping where I once roamed. The second house was actually my grandma's house where I used to hang out.

This was my mode of transportation to school. Nope, no mountain bikes, or any fancy bicycles.
New addition to the town in Taiping. It's one of the most happening places around in Taiping now. Just right opposite the housing area where I am staying.
This is going to commence soon. End of the month. Apparently there will be Starbucks and also Cineplexes in this building. It is just right next to Tesco.

There you go. Will try to take more photos of the Lake Gardens in my next trip back.

Do pray for mom, as she is not feeling well.

This song has been ringing in my office area where I sit and my room. It's peaceful yet very engaging.

SPELL - Marie Digby - mp3 here

Spotlight shining brightly, on my face

I can't see a thing and yet I feel you walking my way
Empty stage, with nothing but this girl
Singing this simple melody and
Wearing her heart on her sleave

And right now
I have you, for a moment I can tell I've got you
Cuz your lips don't move
Something is happening
Cuz your eyes tell me the truth
I've put a spell over you

Beauty emanates from every word that you say
You've captured the deepest thoughts
In the purest, and simplest of ways
But you see, I'm not that graceful, Like you
Nor am I as eloquent
But just a simple melody
Can change the way that you see me

And right now, I have you
For a moment I can tell I've got you
Cuz your lips don't move
And something is happening
Cuz your eyes tell me the truth
I've put a spell over you

And all my life I've stumbled
But up here I am just perfect
Perfect as I'll, ever be

I have you, for a moment
I can tell I've got you
Cuz your lips don't move
And something is happening
Cuz your eyes tell me the truth
I've put a spell over you

Friday Lunch

It's going to be ironic for this post to be up since my last post. Anyway...

It's gonna be a long afternoon after the Friday lunch with some of my colleagues. JS aka Kepong Boy brought to this place in Batu Caves to try the "Sang Har" Noodle.

Big Prawns with Watt Tan noodles.

Delicious...

Pei Tan(Century Egg) with Pai Kwat (Pork Ribs) Porridge.

Tasty steamed Kampung Chicken. And we also tried their mee mamak. It was awesome.

Location:
Just right before Batu Caves Temple, after the round-about, take a left-turn. Restaurant name is Pan Heong.

Price for all that we had? : RM122.50 divided by 6. With the same price you paying for Delicious Miss Read, I would rather come here for a change. =)

Till then...

Back to Gym

I signed up a trial period for 1 month at centrepoint's Fitness Network Gym. The only main reason I signed up was:-

  1. It is just a floor below my office so I won't have to worry about carrying my heavy laptops around.
  2. I am only paying for 1 month instead of committing to 18months which I know I am going to waste it away.
  3. It's affordable, only RM100.00 trial.
  4. I have colleagues going to that gym too.
  5. Don't have to worry about parking space.
The only setbacks is that:
  1. No towels for bathing. Have to bring own towels.
  2. Some of the equipment a bit old
  3. No face towel during workout.
  4. No weighing machine in the Men's restroom. Where is it anyway?
  5. No jiwang music to keep me pumped up on the treadmill.
Well I guess I can live with that. I am looking forward to kickboxing class this Friday, that is if I didn't go back to Taiping for the weekend. Let's hope I could start shedding some pounds for just this 1 month. If it really works, I may consider joining for 3 months period. We'll see...

Till then.

Had the opportunity to dine in Latest Recipe, Le Meridien. It was a treat from Jeffrey for his and Wai Yee's birthday. Thanks a lot for making this gathering a pleasant one, Jeffrey! Here are some photos courtesy of Raymond Ooi:

Welcome to Latest Recipe.

One of my favourite stall is the teppanyaki stall.
They served fish, beef, chicken and prawn. Look at the sauce.

Teppanyaki Icecream in the making

The final product. Yummy.

They have got 2 chocolate fountains there.

This is where you dip the strawberries into the fountain.

That is the sushi bar.

Indeed, a night of chilling with good food...

Price? RM78++ per head not inclusive of drinks. There are other food like, dim sum, pasta, Northern Indian Cuisine, chicken rice, fried loh shu fun (must try!!), and some local food, oysters, prawns, measles, etc.

Happy birthday again, Jeffrey and Wai Yee.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I have just finished watching Prince Caspian. As the book was written by one of the famous christian writer, C.S Lewis, the same author who wrote "Surprised by Joy", I was trying to see what spiritual element I could take home with me from this movie.

**Warning: There could be spoilers ahead.**
This is strictly personal opinion and what struck me when I watch the movie:

  • When only Lucy saw Aslan where the rest didn't see Him. They didn't believe Lucy.
I learnt the lesson of "Child like Faith". As we grew older, a lot of times we want something tangible instead of faith.
  • The first battle, they lost because they did not want to wait upon Aslan to help them. This action has caused the lives of their followers. I learnt that if we fought with our own strength in spiritual battle, we will fail miserably.
  • King Peter wanted to prove that he is a better leader than Prince Caspian. There is a personal agenda when they go to war the first time. Which lead to the above. The losing battle of course. If we have hidden agendas in Christian ministries, then we are bound to fail.
  • After the lost the 1st battle, Prince Caspian and King Peter fought with each other. They were desperate and needed help. There was disunity. This has led them almost releasing the Evil Ice Queen. Spiritual lesson is, if there is disunity in the leadership there will be chaos and this will give a foothold for the devil to come in.
  • (I like this best) In the second battle, they have to rush Lucy to seek for Aslan. They had to delay the time of the battle. And of course, Lucy found Aslan and Aslan helped to win the war against their enemies. What I learnt: During the battle, when Lucy went to seek for Aslan's help, it represent that we need to seek God's help in prayer. Aslan asked Lucy why she didn't come to see Him earlier. Sometimes due to our disbelief and think that we can do things ourselves, we discard God from the picture. Seek God in every spiritual battle and He will help us to gain victory. Delaying the time for the battle to me represents waiting upon the Lord.
  • There was an "altar call" at the end of the movie. Aslan offer the Telmarine to this place which they have prepared for them to start a new life. Some didn't believe that it was a good place, only a few entered. Salvation is offered to everyone but only some will accept it.
  • When the rat lost his tail, he requested Aslan to heal him coz of dignity and pride and honour. If it was for that reason, then Aslan won't heal but Aslan healed him because of his love for his people. When we request for favour from God, make sure it is not for your pride but more for the love of His people.
  • The little dwarf, friend to Lucy didn't see Aslan at first, but he saw Aslan through Lucy later on. We need to live a life that other people could see God through us.
Well, that's my observation. To some people, I may have read too much into it, but anyhow, I felt blessed by it and was much encouraged by the movie through these personal observation, that's what that matters. =)

Enjoy the movie to those who haven't watch. I appreciate the movie through these parallelism.
